I was fortunate enough to become acquainted with a Harmony Central Effects Forumite who was capable of building one of these (PB Wilson/Lead to Gold Effects). Mine is a custom-designed unit in a wah/volume pedal shell. The treadle allows me to manipulate the 'frequency' parameter in real time and there are knobs for the other three settings (noise gate threshold, envelope depth, and volume).
Good Points: Organic, rave-ish synth tones, death crackles, and glitches are possible at all ranges in the frequency spectrum. Chords are still intelligible amidst the chaos with most settings. When the gate is lowered, the self-oscillation is prominent and thick. Differences in input signal volume can allow for subtle envelope variations. It cascades well with other fuzzes. The output level is insanely high.
Bad Points: Lower envelope depth settings can be overly muddy/bassy. My Uglyface's self-oscillation does not seem reactive to nuances of the input signal (as would be the case with a Zvex Fuzz Factory or Zoom Ultra Fuzz). Currently, Uglyfaces must be custom built (unless you want to pay big bucks for a Studio Electronics Wolftone Choas pedal).

this pedal kicks major arsnic! Fuzz, siren, synth, octave, autowha noise machine...generates own sounds....feeds like crazy...and look at the paint job!
