Sirkut Electronics Moribuleizer

Sirkut Electronics Moribuleizer

The Sirkut Electronics Moribuleizer is a clone of the famous Gristleizer -- the custom effect unit that helped define the sound of Throbbing Gristle in the late 1970s. The only deviation from the original is that the level knob is not present (who cares, I want it loud!) and a rate doubler switch has been added which will make the LFO slower. Other than that it's the usual Gristleizer that is two pedals in one. One setting you have a Tremolo (VCA) the other setting you have a Filter pedal (VCF). The two circuits, though, can't be used at the same time. Housed in a neat desktop metal enclosure.

  • This can definitely give vocals, synths and geetars a very TG "vibe" via stuttering tremolo, pulses, and filter sweep sounds, especially with some delay and modulation effects around it, but I think it really shines inside a feedback loop. It sounds surprisingly-good with a pitch shifter and distortion before it in a loop. When the rate of the VCF (or is it the VCA? I don't know)is set really high, you can actually get something that sounds like a distortion effect out of this thing! It might take some time to understand all the controls... All in all, it's a really great addition to my Noise rig.
  • Good Points: Lots of volume. Adds a lot of new sounds, even to simple feedback loops. Makes me kind of want a bunch of synth modules just for signal processing...
  • Bad Points: Has a steep learning curve, and it lacks any sort of documentation to help explain the controls, but one can make sense of them by playing around with it. The Bias(?) knob's range seems to be covered by about half of its rotation from what I can tell. Sometime I think the missing volume knob could come in handy! 'spensive!
