BugBrand Weevil

BugBrand Weevil

The BugBrand Weevil features twin ring-mod lo-fi oscillators connected to a massive copper touch plate. It loves to click, drone and squeal. Bend the sound in super extreme manners with the 8 copper contact elements. Lick your fingers and allow the electrons to flow via your body, causing the oscillators to wail and fight each other. The low-power knob starves the battery supply, simulating a battery running out and leading to wonderful sonic circuit malfunctions. Now with an added tone/filter control for extra sonic powers. Literally hours of sonic enjoyment!! Powered by a standard 9 volt battery.

  • Two square-wave lo-fi oscillators battle it out 'midst a ring mod and filter with your wet fingers as the source of power and/or zaniness. I've used this live already at a rock show to an appreciative crowd. Tom Bugg has a wonderfully interactive and beautiful product here. Personally I think the low power dial (dying battery) is just a one trick pony but is still interesting. The key is to keep your hands CONSTANTLY moist and experiment and play, experiment and play again and again. I've found that I can achieve a certain predictable effect at certain touch points- it's not just constantly random. The best sounds are when you get it to "sing" in a high pitched melancholy wail of pain! Beautiful!
  • Good Points: Well built, plastic case (has to be). Copper etching plate is beautiful. (btw, I own noisefx No.1 weevel). Chickenhead knobs give it a classy retro look.
  • Bad Points: None

  • alright....i know we have seen this before in the form of a Crackle Box. but besides the idea this thing is completely different! it's more 'synthy' sounding whereas the Crackle Box mainly sounds like a REALLY loud shorting AM radio.(which is mega cool too.) The Weevil makes a ton of noiz as soon as it's on. when you touch the contact plate it starts to really go nuts. the battle of the ring mod osscilators is a really cool thing to listen to. then tweaking the filter, rates, and pitches of those things and it's endless mayhem! i like the low power knob to starve the battery supply. nice accidents happen there! i didn't notice any voltage tingles until i hooked it up to a chain of noiz boxes. i had the Weevil going through a Modulo-Osscilo fuzz controlled by a CP-251, a ripplet, and a Resonator. i then started to feel the tingly electrons. kinda scary at first but then you get addicted to it...
  • Good Points: VERY unique sounds! well built. lots of sound manipulation options right on the beast.
  • Bad Points: a bit pricey. it's from England though so it's just going to be. it has to run a battery. i would like a regular 9 volt input jack on it. but maybe there isn't one on it for a good reason....
