Tech 21 XXL

Tech 21 XXL

Tech 21’s Warp manipulates the structure and balance of odd and even harmonics, and influences the X-Factor™: the ratio of odd and even harmonics relative to the dynamics of your signal. The highly interactive and interdependent nature of the Warp control enables you to achieve a variety of results, even within the same setting, depending on the manner and force of your signal's attack.

  • This marks the first time I'm gonna return a pedal. I wish I knew what the Hell the other dudes used this for, because I couldn't find a use for it.

I watched the YouPoop videos, and it seemed like a great piece of gear, especially the WARP knob. Turns out the function only works with certain sounds. Basically, it's for tone whores. WARP won't work with single coil pick ups, and seems to do absolutely nothing with white noise or vocals. The only thing I could get to change with that function was a square wave, and even then it was pretty slight.

The distortion is real nice, but there are others out there that fit better. All in all, a pretty big disappointment.
  • Good Points: Looks nice as all Hell Built well, very sturdy Pretty nice distortion function
  • Bad Points: WARP knob does barely anything with most anything other than a guitar with twin coil pick ups The position of the power input. Have to unscrew the base to plug in a battery, and the expernal power is in front of the output, which bugged me.

  • I got this off Ebay by accident, i bid it up 1 dollar and one at 39 bucks. I am pleasantly surprised by this pedal. The XXL is built like a brick shit house, very solid...you could probably run this over with a car and it would survive. The distortion made by this pedal can be altered via the WARP knob. The instructions say it goes from overdrive to regular distortion to a hyper fuzz. I don't know if it does all that but when you get it dialed in correctly it will give up some savage distortion. I would never consider this as a main distortion but put it behind a bunch of effects in your loops and it will do some major damage. The tone and warp knobs are the action knobs on her, I just leave the drive cranked for maximum gain. The distortion put out by this pedal is crisp and crunchy. It never gets muddy like a deathmetal or grunge. There is absolutly no signal loss with this pedal. All in all i like this pedal , for the money i spent it has really been a kick ass addition to the collection.
  • Good Points: Crisp , crunchy distortion Stainless steel enclosure great looking pedal built to last meatball easy to use excellent variety of sounds to be had via the tone and warp knobs THE WARP knob!!!!! mine was cheap
  • Bad Points: The distortion could have been a little more manly Bitch to get at the battery compartment, yay one spot

  • I own this pedal for a few years and i'm happy i did buy it in the first place. Not only is this pedal a versatile one but it is of high quality. The WARP effect is specially amazing, it offers endless possibilities in morphing the distortion, from really fuzzy and sludgy to something really bright and clear, it covers both ends of the spectrum really well. The drive is also adequate, nothing compared to other pedals but if you drive it through you end up with a nice distorted sound with plenty of layers. I ran vocals and devices in it live and it is always a pleasure to turn the WARP knob and create fx with some other pedals as a delay or flanger. It has a high input quality. If you are into massive amounts of distortion and like a wall of saturation, this one's for you. Have an adaptor handy, though. This one likes eating batteries.
  • Good Points: WARP knob, you'd wish all other pedals had it
  • Bad Points: High battery consumption
  • Price Paid: US$160.00
