Snarling Dogs Mold Spore

Snarling Dogs Mold Spore

Blast off to the Cosmos or come in for a landing with our award winning Mold Spore. This pedal starts off with our three basic wah sounds, WHITE ROOM (thick and creamy), VOODOO (midrange growl), and SHAFT (sharp and funky). It also has an adjustable wah pre-amp and can be used as a conventional wah. Step on the MOLD SPORE switch if you dare! Enter a new dimension as it activates a sort of ring modulator that can be used alone or in conjunction with the wah. The internal freakwincy tone can be set with a chickenhead knob on the side of the pedal, or changed by the foot pedal. Used in this fashion with the wah turned on, you have a filter freak out. Adjust the balance of the modulated and normal signals. Play a chord with a dissonant sound and then bring it into blissful tune with the foot pedal. Create robot voices, spaceships taking off or landing, tribal drums, cracks in the universe and Godzilla alarms. If you want weird... you want a Mold Spore.

Controls:

  • ON/OFF, Psych-ON/Psych-OFF
  • 3-way switch: White, Voo Doo, Shaft
  • Preamp volume boost
  • Freakwincy
  • Scum Freakwincy Volume
  • Straight Jacket Volume

  • This is the only pedal that has ever (half) broken in a feedback loop. The ring mod feature on mine no longer works, although the wah still does. I was very crushed when this happened, be careful.
  • Good Points: The ring mod sounded great. I used it mainly to alter human speech into a jumbled alien soundscape. The wah isn't too bad for noise purposes either if you like sharp piercing threshold sounds.
  • Bad Points: Broke in a feedback loop. Biiig pedal. Can take away power from your other pedals if you place it too far down the chain.

  • This pedal is amazing in my current setup... I run it in a noise loop out to my blue box, and then through a Boss DD-6, and this thing does unbelievable things. My only criticism would be that you can't change the rate at all, but its a fairly simple ring modulator effect. Not much else I can say that hasn't been covered below. I do reccomend this to anybody doing something noisy. The only way you won't like it would be if your into very ambient sounds, as this thing is super harsh... It does some ambient synth bell sounds but not as well as some other ring modulators, or even my Micro-Korg...
  • Good Points: Very Noisy (though some might consider that bad), Very Unique design as you can swep the freequency of the ring modulator via the foot pedal. Overall its a good ring mod, with an excellent wah depending upon placement, I found that at the end of the chain it won't pick up th signal very well, but at the begining it works perfectly, and the wah's range is more than usable (I personlly use the VooDoo setting).
  • Bad Points: Mold Spore foot switch cn be hard to get to... would have ben better if they put it in the front and extended the size of this already beastly pedal.

  • Damned thing is so yellow that as soon as I opened the box, the pedal jumped out and said "Parkay!" This fucker is loud loud loud in and of itself, doesn't suck out much low end, and is absolutely cantankerous towards sound. The ring mod is nice and strong. The multiple modes allow for a great many sound combinations. I feed my Sirkut Rmod into it for extra nastiness.
  • Good Points: Surprisingly versatile Loud Nasty
  • Bad Points: Unlike my boss V-wah, the high piercing parts of the wah are easily buried beneath the 2 distortions I have following it. Between the insane yellow colouring, and those strong assed LEDs; I was blinded, tripped on something, and nearly broke my neck. Oh, and it can be a touch disconcerting being stared at by that mean ol doggy with glowing red eyes.

  • Oh the wounderous noises this thing makes. It's a ringmod with a sweepable carrier frequency (switchable to either a control knob on the side or the pedal). It's a pretty nice wah. It is loud. Very very loud. Best sounding ringmod I've used (but then, most of those were various ringmod patches from digital multi effects). All your standard sci-fi/outer space/information overloaded noises are here. It sounds insane fed back into itself. Lots of low end, lots of high end. Lots of everything. Did I mention it was loud? It glows in the dark. Big. Yellow. Different.
  • Good Points: it's a ringmod (and to my ears, a good one at that). It's loud. It's yellow and glows in the dark. Nice agressive wah as well.
  • Bad Points: It's kind of heavy and large for a pedal. I've read complaints that the pedal mechanism is prone to failure, though never had problems with mine.

  • Holy mother. This pedal is effing amazing. Imagine that a cougar and a lawnmower motor had a baby. Imagine that baby crying, and someone trying to shut it up by choking it. Throw a broken shorwave radio in there somewhere. Delicious
  • Good Points: It's a ridiculous noisemaker that doesn't quite sound like anything else. Makes a wide range of sounds. The circuit includes an odd sort of noise gate that I like a lot.
  • Bad Points: The company is out of business.

  • The words to describe this pedal is simply WOW. Totally worth the I spent on it. Not only do you get a very versatile wah pedal, you also get a decent Ring Mod as well. A great addition to anyone's pedal setup.
  • Good Points: The wah and ring mod both have knobs to tweak the sounds out of it. Great addition is both the wah and ring mod can be adjusted via the expression pedal. The highs and lows this pedal can make will just make you drool.
  • Bad Points: None.

  • its the whine-o wah i reviewed for harshnoise less a few features (no dual induction, no dirty/clean mode) but with a stack more.. as in, a ring mod! mod freq, mod range (hi/lo), mod effect, mod volume, mod blend. it also has a switch to make the mod freq controlled not by the knob but by the footpedal.. you can use the ring mod separate from the wah or both at the same time for cracked out tweakage with both relying on the footpedal for range (or the mod using its freq knob). still has the 3 wah modes of the whine-o and the wah boost knob. i'm really diggin' this thing. a previous reviewer said it isn't good for the crazy effects noisicians want ring mods for, i'm not sure what that'd be but it sounds great to me. not as much tweakage as a ring stinger, but great soudn none the less. its like having a mini-synth, especially with some high-noise pedal plugged in before it (death metal to eq to wah/ring mod) just whines and tones the feedback. tasty!
  • Good Points: i'll probably never get rid of it, but it starts near the beginning of muh chain so i can obfuscate it as much as possible.. good for nasty synth tones, especially at its highest whine. honestly i leave most everything at its highest setting (cept wah boost and frequency sweep) and it cranks..
  • Bad Points: it doesn't seem to follow the signal pumping into it all that well.. it tones it but it doesn't really seem to tweak it too much or sum and difference..
