Moog MoogerFooger FreqBox MF-107

Moog MoogerFooger FreqBox MF-107

The MF-107 FreqBox(tm) is different from other effects the effected sound is not a processed version of your input signal, but the sound of the input signal modulating an internal oscillator. It contains a VCO with continuously variable waveshape, and the capacity to modulate that Oscillator in the following ways:

  • the VCO can be hard synced by the input signal
  • The VCO can be frequency modulated (FM) by the input signal
  • The VCO frequency can be modulated by an envelope follower which tracks the dynamics of the input signal
  • The Amplitude of the VCO also tracks the dynamics of the input signal

  • I've had this pedal for quite a while now and its really flexible as you can use it as a VCO for synth stuff as well as a great fuzz box for guitar. You can also set it up witha contol pedal to make some really harsh sync wah sounds. Sometimes it requires a lot of fiddling to get something original out of it but its definitely a useful noise maker. The Envelope follower is useful for controlling other fx. I wish the Envelope follower could have its attack and decay adjusted as the up/down of the envelop sounds a bit generic. though is very useful at more subtle settings.
  • Good Points: Unusual fuzz sounds, best at beginning of signal chain as it dominates anything being fed into it. I wish the Envelope follower could have its attack and decay adjusted as the up/down of the envelop sounds a bit generic.
  • Bad Points: These moog pedals are Positive Ground and can cause problems when using other pedals with low voltage tolerances such as the Malekko Delay pedals. Switch off the moogerfooger before plugging them in to other pedals to avoid catastrophe. Because most of my pedals are negative ground I've had small electric shocks from plugging the moog gear into other bits of equipment.

  • Wide array of harsh and odd tones. Get this box!
  • Good Points: Slow creeping bleeps and full on craaazzy blasts of filtered + osc'ed madness. Wet/dry knob is priceless in a chain or loop. Tone sync allows for interesting dynamics. Turn the input volume on all the way and add some nasty dirt. Looks cool.
  • Bad Points: Wall wart, expensive.
