Ibanez Flanger FL9

Ibanez Flanger FL9

The FL9 has four knobs to control: Speed, Width, Regeneration, and Delay Time. It is a very good flanger. It's a bit noisy. The sound is rich and creamy but for subtle, gentle things it sounds incredibly warm, watery with sweeps to super silly swirls. Sweet whooshing effects and wicked jet plane type sounds are possible,as well as a light chorus sound.

  • Mine is old and beat up, got it for my birthday. It sounds pretty good, no noise issues here. It spretty typical of a flanger and does that plastic tube thing but can be less extreme. For some reason it causes feedback in my signal chain, particularly in my DIY reverb tank setup. Thats not a bad thing at all. I haven't fiured out why, and really I don't care cos its cool. Not overly warm or cool sounding, it just sits well in my signal chain right after the delay.
  • Good Points: Easy to use, sounds better than a few other flangers I've tried, especially in regard to noise like the EHX and DOD flangers.
  • Bad Points: I think one of the pots is a bit dodgy as there's almost no difference in LFO speed til the last 20%

  • Cool pedal. Durable, Nothing can come apart easily. Funny yellow color.
  • Good Points: Nice tones and range. I use it on vocal effects as well as guitar after a Big Muff. Sounds rad on either.
  • Bad Points: Can suck volume out if in a certain place in chain, but for me not a problem.

  • awesome pedal for noise. the pedal sounds okay stock but if you open up the back you'll find three internal trim pots that you can tweek. set correctly, you can send the fl9 into self oscillation mode when you crank the regeneration knob. you can get sine wave, siren and weird alien spaceship type sounds. couple this with a delay and you're set.
  • Good Points: sturdy box, highly tweekable, can sometimes be found cheap
  • Bad Points: mine has a faulty switch. sometimes when you press it down the pedal doesn't work. it's probably a minor fix.
