DOD Grunge FX69B

DOD Grunge FX69B

A fat and crunchy distortion very similar to a Big Muff, only more flexible. High and Low EQ controls, Overall Level and Grunge (distortion) knobs. Great for Noise... Tough die cast chassis and soft touch footswitch and an LED indicator to let you now when the effect is engaged.

  • Wow! Since i bought this pedal a whole new dimension went open for me. This pedal made me a noise lover to the bone and I kinda fell in love with DOD pedals. But DOD has some less good pedals as well. About the DOD Grunge FX69B there isn't much to say exept that it is a real LOUD and POWERFULL pedal with a gain as sharp as a blade. When you turn up your bass knob you'll notice you have some strong powerfull bass vibes, which is great! The only thing I hate about it is that my pedal broke. I smashed my guitar a few years ago and the bass knob accidently broke. A few months ago i noticed that the chip to the knob also must have been cracked off so I'm looking for a new one because it's definatly worth it! Also I'd like to check out the DOD Death Metal if I'm able to find it!
  • Good Points: - LOUD - Powerfull - good bass vibes - a gain as sharp as a samurai blade
  • Bad Points: Definatly none except that it broke...

  • this was the first pedal i ever bought. total grinding distortion mayhem. sounds great with low knob maxed and high knob at 12 to 4 o'clock. i pretty much always keep the Grunge knob maxed out for maximum brutality. this pedal was THE staple of my setup during my early boombox-recording stage. i ran nearly everything through it. i use it sparingly now, but it does just what i need it to: it barfs out serrated and crashing distortion tones, on command.
  • Good Points: + raw, sloppy, LOUD distortion + great for bass-y applications; even with lots of high end dialed in, it still kicks out strong bass tones + can be useful almost anywhere in a chain
  • Bad Points: - this pedal's voice is sort of recognizable among certain people - not as much EQ control as i like - not as loud as the Death Metal these are all minor gripes, though. this pedal is pretty fantastic for noise.

  • Its oddly tinny sounding, sort of what i imagine playing loudly in a room made completly out of metal or aluminum would sound..As with most of the more popular noise distortions you can get some good highs and lows, but what really makes this pedal useful for me is the abillity to control the *amount* of distortion...good for switching from junk noise to overly-distorted clanky death.
  • Good Points: long battery life. Its purple! Good range. Occasionally spits out some interesting things in a floop. The abillity to control the amount of distortion
  • Bad Points: Not quiiite as much high end as i would like, but there never is.:) the battery light is on when something is plugged into it and slightly brighter when you push the stomp pad on.Thats a bit annoying, but this effect is usually easy to tell if its on from listening to the sound..

  • With guitar it has a really long sustain time, I am not exactly sure how does it apply for noise use but I am sure that it does magic with contact mics/shaker boxes/scrap metal/barrels etc. It is crunchy and nasty, it doesn't just cut through your ears like the Death Metal or Metal Zone, it like a corroded knife if you know what I mean.
  • Good Points: - Rust, crust and dust - It sprays noise - It will add a whole new dimension to the sound of your contact mic
  • Bad Points: - the switch and ac input can be easily broken (i had to fix mine several times)

  • This is an awesome distortion, I use it on vocals & contact mic'd junk a lot, but it works with a lot of sources. Really really heavy and bassy (I usually turn the Grunge and Low way up and the High to 3/4 or 1/2). Good to use on something with higher frequencies (I like rumbly growly bass drone stuff rather than high squeals though so your mileage may vary on that).

  • by itself, this is just an okay pedal, but used in conjunction with other distortions, you can get some nice tones and textures out of it. Definitely worth picking up one of these
  • Good Points: Works well for adding more flavor to other distortions.
  • Bad Points: not really harsh enough to use on it's own, and a tad bit too muddy

  • I have had this pedal longer than any others, and it still stays true. Not as versatile as the Metal Zone, but certainly valuable due to the extreme lows and highs that it is capable of generating in a pedal chain. Creates nice, high-end crackles and massive low-end throbs and drones. Definitely a much needed part of my sound.
  • Good Points: Very nice high/low extremes. Great gain.
  • Bad Points: Could be a bit more versatile, but it isn't a problem when used in a pedal chain.

  • i use this thing in the end of my chain if i just want to rip it up and get a load of feedback. the pedal sounds like crap to me unless the low end knob is absolutely cranked, but that's just my opinion. it can get a little too metallic for my taste when used by itself with guitar. sounds pretty cool with wah and makes a fine bass distortion. that's mostly what i've been using it for lately. it seems pretty durable to me, but i don't do too much touring with it. once again: feedback haters need not apply!
  • Good Points: dirty sound, feedback, heavy metal casing... feedback
  • Bad Points: a little too metallic at times

  • right now,i use it at the end of my chain for the eq/level but i've used it for all kinds of stuff. i love it. it just completely ruins anything you run through it. people say it's muddy and the distortion sucks, but that's what makes it so good.
  • Good Points: great sound, really loud, metal case
  • Bad Points: none that i've found, other than even when i turn it off, the red light stays on.

  • Acsually its a pretty good sounding pedal i think, it lives up to its name. has a thick sound but prbably could use a tad more bass, but then you might as well get the DOD Death Metal Distortion
  • Good Points: metal construction, reliable and sounds good
  • Bad Points: not much

  • Man....talk about muddy up your signal..where the corrosion kills with the highs/feedback..the grunge muddies up your signal. I find its easier to use it in the beginning rather than the end of the chain since it muddies it up so much..but when you need that muddy sound.. definately throw this at the end!
  • Good Points: cheap, nice range of sound..mostly muddy.
  • Bad Points: none i can think of.

  • Last I remember, the distortion on this pedal was just about the worst thing I had heard since my Digitech GSP5's digital tube distortion. VERY tinny, very distorted to the point of nastieness. It eventually broke, but in an interesting way. By plugging it in (with out the guitar), it would create this crazy sine wave whose pitch could be controlled by the knobs.
  • Good Points: Nasty over the top treble distortion if you dig that kind of thing.
  • Bad Points: Everything, that is, unless you like this kind of distortion.

  • Warm and smooth distortion in a neat box. There is quite a good range of sound in this silly named box and I use this in the end of my chain of effects so it is used as an equaliser. It can be heavy and midfreq but it always retains its own character and sound. It can really muddy up your sound in a great way and I am happy I got it.
  • Good Points: Own character of sound. Good quality.
  • Bad Points: Silly name...

  • I use this for my bass to get some of the loudest nastiest/noiseist distortion I've heard come out of a DOD pedal. I like the eq options. I can make it growl w/ out loosing the deep end. I have to admit you will become invisible useing this live if any other instruments are playing remotley as loud as you. For live sound I'd recomend the Big Muff over this, but I use both live cause it does sound more discusting than the Muff if I'm playing a little bass interlude or lead in. I'd try the Bass Grunge if I could find one, but I'll be fine w/ just the FX69B if I can't.
  • Good Points: Ugly, Loud, Raucous, Yeaaaaaa!!!
  • Bad Points: Hope you don't care about feedback, and tone freaks need not apply.

  • This pedal has a smooth sound, good EQ and a quite stupid amount of gain and distortion. It's either heavy or heavier. It sounds better on smaller amps and has a really nasty fuzz sound. Great for noise players. Great for getting a mogwai/MBV-like wall of noise or feedback on demand. Bad for anything except noise really.
  • Good Points: Great for noise playing! REALLY distorted and loud pedal. Really nasty fuzz sound for kids Can sound like a noisy feedbacking mess

  • another mean distortion from the folks at DOD. although less aggressive than the Death Metal pedal, i tend to use this more often. has a nice high and low eq, as well as a gain knob which you can use to really crank out some noise. the last (and best) knob is the grunge knob, which can add fuzz/buzz/grit to a low end sound, or a nice crackle to the high end. processing either high pitched or low-volume sources is where this pedal gets the most use in my setup. it also makes metal percussion even more fun, if you can avoid (or abuse) the feedback generated.
  • Good Points: everything! i've found a multitude of uses for this thing, and it works wonders as a sound source itself with just an empty cable plugged in.
  • Bad Points: yeah, right.
