This is a cool pedal for noise. In a floop everything becomes a harsh squelchy mess. It also adds a fair amount of volume and bass to your chain, which is very nice. I do have a couple of gripes though. Firstly, if you turn it off, it turns your whole chain off. Why a Digitech pedal at this price range isn't true bypass is beyond me. There is also no true filter/wah as the name suggests, which is confusing. The controls can also be unresponsive in some settings which kinda sucks. Don't let me put you off though, this is a very harsh and unique sounding pedal and it has a permanent home in my set-up.
Good Points: Built like a tank, very harsh, very loud, a wide selection of weird synth sounds.
Bad Points: Eats batteries, unresponsive controls, NO TRUE BYPASS?, no basic filter.

I bought this pedal after my DOD auto-wah finally died on me. I thought it would be nice to get some more bass into my sound and this does the trick in spades! For harsh noise using the 1st two settings creates some amazing high frequency tones that will add shock treament to your sound for sure. Depending on the sound source you can get ultra clean high pitched tones or crazy digital feedback that sounds like a computer dying. Now that I do more synth based work I realize the power of the octasub filter as well. It really adds an extremely deep sub-bass to your synth that fattens up your sound immensely. Just be sure to turn the range all the way down to get rid of the wah effect. I'm not to into the synth/filter seeting in the middle, but you can get some great bubbly space synth sounds with the third setting. For harsh noise this a great pedal to get to add some synth sounds to your sound or a fat low end. For synth users doing drone or pe this is a must own!
Good Points: great pedal, built like a tank.
Bad Points: battery life is aweful like on all digitech pedals. Wish they would just use the space to add more features.

Interesting implementation of a synth pedal let down by forgetting to include a simple filter as one of the options. A simple would revision of the firmware would be enough to make this pedal highly sought after by the noise and synth crew as a cheap but powerful dedicated filter.
Good Points: Wide variety of sounds possible with envelopes applied in interesting ways depending on the setting. I would expect it to be quite expressive with a bass guitar though I have not tried that myself. Build quality is as usual with Digitech gear awesome.
Bad Points: Main one is that there is no way to have a static filter with a manual cutoff controlled by a knob. Seems a very odd omission and basically takes this pedal out of the running for many applications. Too bad as the sound of the filters is nice. With loud sources the envelope trigger can get quite confused.

Amazing pedal.Slays all in a feedback loop with as little as a distortion and a filter or a eq.Any signal ran through this baby gets mutilated beyond recognition and comes out as a gurgling and trembling noise mutant.Massive variety of sounds,Rumbling earthquake lows and emo kid killing highs.Intense pseudo-cutup/dynamic changes made easily possible with this pedal.Easily one of my favorites.
Good Points: Everything.I had this and a few pedals at a show hooked up to a contact mic and someone asked me if i was running a floop afterwards because of the speedy changes and such.Amazing value for the money.
Bad Points: It doesnt grow tentacles and slay your enemies for you or magically confuse ATMS into spraying cash in your general direction.Mine had to get a joint re-soddered after a few days of use.works fine now.

Awful pedal. The synths sound terrible and thin. The envelope filter sounds okay, but weak when compared to most other filters. The octave tracks superbly, but I got a bunch of upper octave notes with it. Sounds fantastic in the store, but is disappointing when you bring it home. The appearance of depth on this pedal is completely false -- the sounds are not terribly variable. Also, the bypass is awful. I compared it to an Ibanez AW-7, a DOD FX25 (original), and a DOD FX25B. The filters on all of them offered more depth of sound. Synth wise - and I never thought I'd say this - the FX25B is better. You can get some useful sounds with much tweaking, but the knobs are flimsy and it's hard to reproduce a tone, even if you're in almost the exact same spot. Incredibly frustrating to use live unless you just tape down your favorite setting. Never tried it in a feedback loop, but I imagine the bypass makes it hard to use. It can sound good if you heap more processing on it, but at that point you're best off just getting a better pedal.
Good Points: Octave feature tracks superbly, cheap.
Bad Points: Sounds are weak, bypass is awful.

This thing is quite impressive. I was able to pick one up on sale and I couldn't be happier. I put it into a chain and was happy with the result but I noticed if I turned the pedal off, my entire chain turned off. And with no volume knob you can just lower the effect. So I put it in it's own chain with a pink noise generator feeding into it. It gives you lots of different sounds. From this low that shakes the bones in your body to 8 bit videogame sounds to highs that pierce your ears. I absolutley love this thing and I hope to work it in to different chains and loops and see what I come up with.
Good Points: Variety of sounds Lows to highs and everything in between Well worth any price you find it at
Bad Points: No volume knob Dominates your loop/chain

One of my favorite pedals without a doubt. This thing breathes new life into loops that you won't believe. Chaotic and wild, will often turn your loop into a high pitched scream seconds before a crashing thrash of sound. A great way to keep things noisy without just being white noise/lots of dynamics.
Good Points: Nice green color.
Bad Points: No volume control.

I use this in an feedback loop and think of it as a way of changing the "oscillator" in my rig. It has alto of versatility, can sound like a distortion and a synth and a sub octivator. Sometimes it makes the sound just king of flat and digital sounding. the 2 outs are good to have.

I love autowah but it gets to sound samey after a while, so this pedal is perfect -- seven seriously different sounding effects types that'll make pretty much anything more interesting, from your feedback loop to your noise synth to your wah pedal (it'll actually make a crybaby almost not suck). Every setting is useful, but I use the subs the most to just set and forget extra low end, but there's also plenty of sweepable envelope action to be had.
Good Points: An absolute steal for the price, dual output, nice bass range, ultraclean type switching, good for everything from subtle beefing up a drone to percussive modulation to feedback scree.
Bad Points: No volume knob, I guess, but I'd rather do without it than try to fit another knob on here and the dual outs make it less important. If you've got a mixer you won't really miss it.

Sweet pedal. so many different noises you can. everything from low brutal drones to high squeeks, even gives some droned out beats. in a very sturdy case. 5 out of 5 stars

This is so great for noise. You can switch between seven modes (filters, wah, synths) and every mode has three parameters to tweak. Get a simple softsynth and let it run through this and a distortion and you'll get some nice and brutal sounds.
Good Points: heavy construction, solid as a brick easy to use wide array of sounds

This pedal is really something special. It is very versatile; each setting has its own particular quirks and reacts in a variety of ways depending on your settings. The synths have a wide range of frequencies, creating everything from high chirps to low rumblings. I disagree with the review that states this pedal is intrusive only. Truth be told it can be used for harsh grating noise washes or ambient blips and beeps, all depending on the signal and the setting. And since every setting is different from another, great, very abrupt transitions can be made.
Good Points: Wide range of seriously spaced out sounds. Very reasonably priced for a synth pedal.
Bad Points: No effect volume knob.

This pedal is really amazing! It can create MANY new sounds with just 1 small box. The synth settings are probably my fav. Overal a very intrusive and disruptive effect. Not so useful if your trying to be ambient or subtle. Also it sounds like its gating when the input signal drops off. Which really only adds to the harshness. This unit really surprised me. Check it out for sure.
Good Points: Very diverse yet easy to use/understand. Nice metal enclosure (durable).
Bad Points: no output volume control? (not a big issue)

LOVE THIS PEDAL!!! Digitech/DOD have really outdone themselves with their X series pedals. No longer do you get 'one-trick pony' stomp boxes!! I love this bass version because of the lower end it's intended for. The weakest setting may be the first one, because it's modeled after the original DOD Envelope Filter. The synth/filter settings kick major butt on this and far surpasses the BOSS Synth pedal! And wait until you chain a distortion with it...sick!!!! This is a MUST HAVE!!!
Good Points: excellent contruction, very 'noise-friendly' knobs, interesting new battery access design, built to handle what you throw at it (it's like a BOSS without the hefty price!!)
Bad Points: NOTHING!!
